NFL: Demaryius Thomas bows out

Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas announced his retirement from professional football on Monday.

“It’s a really tough decision,” the 33-year-old said on the Denver Broncos website.

“Every year I tried to be better and I know I was getting older. It was something that was difficult to accept. I am grateful to have played for 11 seasons. I really am and can now move on. I am happy and healthy. I can now discover a new passion for myself. “

Thomas has spent the majority of his career with the Broncos, who was their first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2010 draft.

“Demaryius has had an incredible career in the NFL and has played a very important role in everything we have accomplished in his many years as a member of the Broncos,” said John Elway, the club president of Denver. DT was a complete wide receiver and was one of the best players in his position. The combination of his size, speed, strength and athleticism was unmatched. ”

Late in his career, Thomas also wore the colors of the Houston Texans (2018) and the New York Jets (2019). The Georgia Tech product has amassed 724 catches for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns in 143 games in the NFL.

He had his best moments when Peyton Manning was quarterback for the Broncos, including four consecutive seasons of more than 1,300 yards (2012 to 2015). Thomas received four invitations to the Pro Bowl game and won the Super Bowl once.
