The Arizona Diamondbacks screwed up a seven-point lead and lost 9-8 to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.

At the same time, they suffered a 21st straight loss on the road, one unit from the unenviable MLB record. This record is shared by the New York Mets of 1963 and the Philadelphia Athletics of 1943.

The D-backs led 7-0 in the second set and the Giants trailed 8-5 in the eighth when Brandon Belt hit a double at the expense of Humberto Castellanos (0-1).

San Francisco filled in the goals, then Mike Yastrzemski pulled off his first career grand slam, still in the eighth inning, to help the Giants complete the comeback.

Steven Duggar also had a homer in the Giants’ seventh straight win over Arizona.

Belt had a total of three hits and produced three runs.

Gomes and Turner sound the charge for the Nationals

Yan Gomes hit a grand slam and Trea Turner had four hits, leading Patrick Corbin and the Washington Nationals to an 8-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Nationals won their third straight game as Pittsburgh suffered a ninth straight loss.

Corbin (4-5) pitched 8.1 innings, allowing one run on eight hits. He had seven strikeouts while making it through the eighth inning for the first time since August 21, 2019.

The fourth grand slam of Gomes’ career capped a first round of five points against Tyler Anderson (3-7). It was Gomes’ first grand slam since joining the Nationals in 2019.

Kyle Schwarber opened the first set with one of the Nationals’ three straight singles. Ryan Zimmerman was struck out before Josh Harrison’s single which produced a run. Gomes followed a circuit to the left.

Turner’s first triple of the season made it 6-0 in the fourth.

The Reds decide in the 10th inning

The Cincinnati Reds didn’t hit a hit in the 10th inning, but they still managed to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1.

Brett Anderson conceded just one hit for the Brewers.

Three relievers then paraded to the mound to limit the Reds to two hits, but everything fell apart for Brad Boxberger (2-2) in 10th.

Boxberger hit Tyler Stephenson with a shot, then he walked up Joey Votto to fill in the goals.

He then reached Eugenio Suarez to push Nick Castellanos, who started the set on second, to home plate.

Stephenson then scored thanks to a sacrifice from Kyle Farmer.

The Reds have now won their last five games and 10 of their 12 most recent games. Like their opponents, they were excellent at the mound.

Luis Castillo has not allowed a run on three hits in seven innings.

Four relievers completed the game, where the Brewers hit just four hits, for the Reds.

Lucas Sims (4-1) threw in the ninth inning, then Amir Garrett got the last out to get his third save.

Daniel Robertson produced the only point of the game for the Brewers in the bottom of the 10th with a single against Heath Hembree.

Both teams struck out 27 batters.

No runner was further than second base before the sixth inning.

Castillo completed seven strikeouts and allowed three walks.

Anderson hasn’t signed a win since April 17. He struck out nine batters and walked out.

On Wednesday, the starting pitchers will be Tyler Mahle (6-2) for the Reds and Freddy Peralta (6-1) for the Brewers.
