Marathon, Ironman, Rothenbaum: Hamburg allows major sporting events

Hamburg’s major sporting events are to take place in summer. “That is our claim and our ambition,” said Interior and Sports Senator Andy Grote (SPD) on Tuesday in Hamburg.

The events should be carried out with the largest possible number of spectators. The event concepts are currently being reviewed in consultation with the health authorities.

The events with a large audience on the routes such as the Cyclassics and the marathon are more difficult, but before the current pandemic development, he is very confident “that we can do it,” said the Senator. Grote also expects that “several thousand spectators” will be able to enter the stadiums at the start of the season of the 2nd Bundesliga on July 23. (dpa / pia)
