Mahulena Bočanová: You will not believe to whom she attributed the authorship of the fashion Olympic collection. Czech athletes resemble Japanese peasants

Fashion lovers certainly still remember them today blue boots worn by Czech athletes at the Olympic Games in London and their tastes were hotly debated long after the end of the sports holiday. In any case, the collection with the motifs of Kupka’s Two-Color Fugue was then accepted by the world beyond the borders of the Czech Republic with enthusiasm and was considered an amusing exaggeration related to the British changeable weather.

A reference to traditions

This year’s fashion collection for Czech athletes, starting in a few weeks at the postponed Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, it evokes a wave of resistance and enthusiasm again. She created it for the Alpine Pro brand Zuzana Osako, a designer who has lived in Japan for some time. And it was this experience of her that eventually catapulted her to an order for a prestigious demonstration of her work. She chose two nominated athletes for the presentation of the models, promising young swimmers Barbora Seemanová and Jan Micka. The collection was presented in the Japanese garden of the Prague Botanical Garden in Troja.

Fashion designer and former model Osako was based on a collection that Czech athletes brought out in 1964 at the Tokyo Olympics. “According to several sources, blueprint came to the Czech Republic from Japan and is still a popular dyeing technique there,” explained the choice of designs for the upper parts of the designer’s models in a press release of the Czech Olympic Committee. In the designs, she also kept the combination of colors blue and white, while adding red in detail to the tricolor. The models can be worn without upper parts, so athletes will remain dressed only in white with red accessories, which are dominated by shoes.

It didn’t work without humor

The collection was positively received by the athletes who go to Japan for the Olympic medals – not to mention that probably few people would dare to criticize the partner of the Czech Olympic Committee. He even went out of their way to allow them not to include a jacket in the collection. “We put a lot on the athletes who had the greatest horror of heat in front of the covid,” he said during the presentation of the collection Chairman of the Committee Jiří Kejval. The jacket was replaced by jupky for women, and vests by men, which are the most common upper part in Czech traditional costumes. The entire collection is also referred to. Unless, of course, there are too many combinations of traditional elements, There are quite nuclear discussions, especially on social networks.

“… blueprints, crumbs, rolled carrots, acacia skirts with scoops and butters. Yeah, and they have our beggar like a bag … that probably killed me the most. Straw rib, traditional bag of bums … ” appeared in comments on facebook. She also expressed a sense of humor actress Mahulena Bočanová, which supplemented the photo of athletes in the Olympic collection with a message about possible designers: “Okamura feat Jožka Šmukař – thank you!” In one of the comments, she also considered how the dress will suit, for example, the bowler Tomáš Staňek.

Americans as astronauts

As they say – a thousand people, a thousand tastes, there are certainly many who like the collection for Czech Olympians and like to buy models for themselves. In the past, the double-sided jacket became a hit with these models, whose functionality she used snowboardcrosser Eva Samkováwhen she took over the Olympic gold medal. And believe me, the Czech team is not the only one with its clothes that arouses controversy on social networks.

A collection for athletes from the United States, which is more like a new model line for astronauts, is criticized not only for its appearance but also for its functionality. The upper model is quite a bulky jacket, so a reminder that in Japan, it will be 40 degrees during the Olympic Games, is quite in place. Of course, the comparison of these two controversial fashion works was not overlooked even by the Czech satirist TMBK, and his collage once again entertains not only sports fans.
