Lucie Malchirand, a true professional

The young French amateur, who won the Italian Open last weekend, is lining up this week in Evian with a new status: she has gone pro.

This is a real feat that the very young Lucie Malchirand (18 years old) achieved last Sunday by winning the Women’s Italian Open, which took place on the Golf Club Margara course, east of Turin. In addition to her victory, the Marseille player La Salette became the first Frenchwoman to win a professional tournament counting for the Ladies European Tour when she was still only an amateur. Malchirand was only participating in his second LET event, after finishing 26th in the Lacoste Ladies Open de France in 2020.

Less than a week later, Lucie Malchirand’s life has changed somewhat. At the beginning of the week, the young Frenchwoman (17 years old) had confided to our colleagues at Planète golf that she was considering giving up amateurism. It only took 48 hours for him to choose to adopt professional status. This week she is playing the Jabra Ladies Open, the third stage of the European Women’s Tour.

“I have to finish my baccalaureate this year,” she explained in front of the cameras of Golf +. I had already answered no to American universities because I had already planned to go pro for a little while already. There, it is a golden opportunity which presented itself to me. Having such a category, and above all being able to play new tournaments, meet new girls … I couldn’t refuse to turn pro so quickly. “

“I’m happy, even if I have a hard time realizing that I am now a professional player.”

For the anecdote, Lucie Malchirand will remember that for her first tournament as a professional, she signed a first card of 69 (-2) on the course of the Evian Resort Golf Club, which will host this summer one of the five major tournaments of the season during the Amundi Evian Championship (July 22-25). Lucie Malchirand has therefore launched this week a professional career that promises to be more than promising.

“I know Evian really well. I have been playing this course since I was very young. It really gave me confidence. I am happy, even if it is difficult to really realize that I am now a professional player. ”
