Luca Van Assche won the Roland-Garros junior tournament … his former coach in heaven

Hélène Gondran, sports director of TCF, Tennis club fidésien, was the former coach of Luca Van Assche. She was in the stands when the young man won the Roland-Garros tournament this Sunday, June 13.

Hélène Gondran trained Luca Van Assch from the age of 7 to 11. During these four years, the sports director of the TCF, Tennis club fidésien, spotted in this young man a certain talent. Almost ten years later, he won the Roland-Garros junior tournament.

”Pwas already, Luca had qualitiesremembers Hélène Gondran. He had physical and technical qualities and a competitive character. He was spotted very quickly by the Regional Tennis League. I had asked his parents to negotiate flexible hours with the Marists, the establishment in which he was educated. I even told his mother, smiling, that he should take French nationality in order to be able to play Roland-Garros under the tricolor colors … she had accepted”.

And for good reason, Luca’s mother is Italian and her father Belgian. His early childhood, he spent first in Aix-en-Provence. Then the father is transferred to Lyon. Little Luca, first registered with the Lyon Tennis club, takes his license from the Fidésien Tennis club which is located closer to the family home.
He stayed there for four years, from when he was 7 to 11.
In 2015, her dad was transferred again. It is in the Capital that he takes new landmarks and new habits.

In Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, there is no event scheduled to celebrate this nice victory … but the young Luca Van Assche, sponsored by the judoka Teddy Riner, may well be in Lyon … during a tournament …
In the meantime and at the same time, he alternates between courses and courses. He is indeed continuing his studies. He will enter Paris Dauphine where he will be able to perfect his favorite subjects, maths and physics.

This victory also allowed the Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon club to be in the spotlight. It currently has 650 licensees, of which 350 are between 7 and 18 years old. Especially since training is the niche of the structure. Registrations will be open from June 23 … but the club is already starting to be very busy.
