L’Expression: Sports – Nourine qualified for the Olympic Games

The native of Oran, ranked 31st in the world (2262 pts), will be the only representative of Algerian judo in Tokyo.

Algerian Fethi Nourine (-73 kg) has qualified for the Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan), the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee (COA) announced on his Facebook page. Triple African champion (2018, 2019, 2021), the member of GS Pétroliers, who regained his continental crown in Dakar (Senegal) last month, will thus realize the dream of any athlete by participating in his first Olympic Games. The native of Oran, ranked 31st in the world (2262 pts), will be the only representative of Algerian judo in Tokyo, while they were 5 in Rio de Janeiro (2016). Regarding the final list of all qualified for Tokyo, it will be unveiled this Wednesday on the website of the International Judo Federation (IJF). “The most important thing in my participation in the last World Championship was to ensure my qualification for the Olympic Games. I was eliminated in the first round following my mouth injury, nevertheless I was able to guarantee my participation in the next Olympics, ”Nourine told Channel 3 of Algerian Radio. “It is obvious that we would have liked to be several to qualify for the Olympics, but unfortunately, I am the only one and I hope to make a good trip”, he added. 40 days before the start of the 32nd Olympic Games, scheduled from July 23 to August 8, 36 Algerians have managed to win the precious sesame.
