Latvian national football team loses in Estonia and loses the powers of the Baltic Cup champions – Football – Apollo.lv – Sports

Dāvis Ikaunieks scored the goal for the Latvian national team, who scored an 11-meter penalty kick in the 84th minute.

The game started with the threatening attacks of the Estonian national team, which allowed the home team to reach 1: 0 in the fifth minute. Sanders Puri was hit dangerously at first, but goalkeeper Robert Ozols was at the height of the task. In the next episode, after Rauno Sapinen played Vladislav Fyodorov, Ozols blocked the Estonian blow, but the ball came to Matthias Keita, who hit 1 – 0.

The Latvians also gradually tried to get their attacking possibilities and in the middle of the half Roberts Savaļnieks made a strong shot to the goal, but the ball got stuck in the defensive wall of the Estonian national team.

In the 40th minute of the game, Kate was again disappointed by the Latvian national team. The attacking midfielder of the Slovenian club “Domžale” under the guise of Latvian footballers made a strong shot outside the penalty area and doubled the advantage of the Estonian national team. At the beginning of the half-time compensation period, Sapinen fixed the goal structure after a dangerous attack, only successfully saving Latvia from falling to the edge of the abyss.

In the second half, Latvia’s attack was intensified by Raimonds Krollis, but the presence of “Valmieras” in the attacker’s field did not immediately significantly aggravate the situation at the opponents’ penalty area. Compared to the first half of the game, in the second half Latvia had more control over the ball, but there was no successful end of the attack.

However, in the 83rd minute of the match after Krišs Kārkliņš’s free kick against Mārci Ošu in the penalty area, Markuss Poms broke the rules. “Pendeli” went to meet Ikaunieks, who was infallible – 1: 2.

In the following minutes, Latvian footballers tried to put pressure on the opponents’ penalty area, but the Estonians kept the result they needed in a tense fight.

The Estonian national team has won the Baltic Cup for the fourth time in history and the first since 1938.

The game was open to about 800 spectators in Tallinn.

In the first Baltic Cup game, the Lithuanian national team conceded to Estonia with 0: 1 at home. In the second fight, Latvia defeated Lithuania 3: 1.

After regaining its independence, Latvia has won Estonia in the Baltic Cup 11 times, playing three times in a draw and once in post-match strokes.

Last time in 2018, Latvia won the Baltic Cup 1: 0.

The next official games for the Latvian national team will be in the beginning of September, when the qualification round of the 2022 World Cup will continue.
