Following the loss of the Nets to the Bucks in Game 7, despite a huge series of Kevin Durant and legendary Game 5 and 7, Scottie Pippen judged that KD had “still things to learn to lead a team to victory” during an exchange with Vincent Goodwill.
“Scottie Pippen: – Yes he was always that player I think. I hear a lot of people say ‘did he outperform LeBron James’? Surpassing LeBron James takes a little more than a person’s effort. LeBron James is a complete team player, who understands the words ‘team’ and ‘win’. Has KD reached this level yet? He came home.
Vincent Goodwill: – But he won two titles and was twice MVP of the Finals.
Scottie Pippen: – But to say he passed LeBron… I think he still has some things to learn about what it takes to lead a team to victory. We still have to say hello to Brooklyn because it was a great series, very enjoyable to watch, despite the loss of Kyrie and the fact that James Harden was probably less than 50%. “
KD responded on Twitter
“Wasn’t it the great Scottie Pippen who refused to come in for a last-second shoot because he was upset that his coach was setting up action for a better shooter?” Kevin Durant
KD refers to Game 3 against the Knicks in 1994 when Toni Kukoc had planted the shoot for the win at the buzzer, which Pippen had attended on the bench, unhappy that the last shoot did not come back to him.
Then he added a layer
“This guy Scott wanted to have a good time during the summer so he chose to do his rehabilitation during the season. Lol Scottie Pippen. THEY FOLLOWED PHIL, NOT YOU! ” Kevin Durant
Pippen had chosen to undergo the operation very late in the 1997 offseason, not wanting to “screw up his summer” as he had confided in The Last Dance. The goal was to show the Bulls how important he was to the team and wanted to renegotiate his contract.
Didn’t the great Scottie pippen refuse to go in the game for the last second shot because he was in his feelings his coach drew up the play for a better shooter??
