Judoka’s Vermeer and De Wit grab bronze at the World Cup in consolation finals

Unlike Vermeer, the 31-year-old Franssen played a supporting role at this World Cup. In the first round, Franssen received a bye and in the second round she lost in extra time on waza-ari against the Hungarian number 27 in the world, Szofi Ozbas.

Won everything on ippon until semi-finals

Vermeer had a great day in Budapest. On her way to the semifinals, she won all her matches on ippon, although she needed an extension in the second round. In the semifinals, Vermeer lost to the strong French Clarisse Agbegnenou: the four-time world champion and number one in the world.

Vermeer previously won bronze at the 2019 European Championships in Minsk and this year’s European Championships in Lisbon.

De Wit after 23 seconds on his back in semi-finals

The 23-year-old Fujiwara, against whom De Wit competed in his consolation final, was no stranger to the Heemskerker. In 2015, De Wit beat him in the final at the World Junior Championships.
