Tarek Jamal from Augsburg does not leave a bad impression at the Judo World Cup – despite his defeat. The 27-year-old is still not allowed to go to the Olympics.

Tareq Jamal delivered a good performance in Budapest. Although the Augsburg judoka was defeated by his Argentine rival Emmanuel Lucenti in the first round of the World Cup, he was still able to gain further international experience after participating in two Grand Prix. The native Syrian Jamal, who trained with the German national team, started much higher for the international “Refugee Team”. By participating in the world tournament, the 28-year-old had hoped to be able to start at the Olympics for the refugee team. But that remains a dream for the time being. Because instead of Jamal, Ahmad Alikaj was nominated, although he only occupies 251th place in the world rankings, while the Augsburg Jamal is listed in 194th place
