John Calipari, open to a possible return to the NBA

John Calipari, current head coach of the University of Kentucky, would be open to the possibility of a return to the NBA benches, reports the media Yahoo! Sports.

After being fired in 1999 by the New Jersey Nets, Calipari signed for the University of Memphis (2000-09) where he spent nine seasons, to later sign for the Wildcats Kentucky (2009-present).

Between Memphis and Kentucky, he has reached the NCAA Final Four four times and won his only title in 2012 after beating Kansas in the final 67-59. His record as an NCAA coach consists of 784 wins and 233 losses.

“It’s still a bit surprising that Calipari is still here. Several close sources indicate that he would be willing to make the leap to the NBA, “admitted the aforementioned media.

“Kentucky’s dynamics coupled with the expectations of its fan base and alumni could make me look for a second chance. It may have peaked in Kentucky, ”an anonymous executive admitted to Yahoo! Sports.

Currently the NBA benches have six vacancies following the recent departures of Stan Van Gundy and Scott Brooks. They are free in the Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards.

In his three courses at the helm of the Nets, he had a negative record of 72-112, reaching the 1998 playoffs where he fell 3-0 in the first round.
