New York Mets pitcher Jacob DeGrom is showing he’s in a class of his own.
The 32-year-old gunner is having his best moments in Major League baseball and that’s saying something when you consider that he won the Cy-Young Trophy in the Nationals in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

In eight appearances on the mound so far in 2021, deGrom has maintained an impressive 0.71 earned run average. This is the lowest average for a starter at the end of May since Chris Short (0.64) with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1964. He is also the first pitcher to maintain an average below 1. , 00 since Ubaldo Jimenez (0.78) with the Colorado Rockies in 2010.
The Florida native also had 82 strikeouts and has handed out just seven free passes since hostilities began in 2021.
On Monday, in his last start, deGrom was nothing short of spectacular. His first ten shots all went 100 miles an hour. He also completed his game with 27 shots that reached triple-digit speed.

On Saturday night, deGrom will have a tough challenge ahead of him as the Mets meet with the San Diego Padres and one Fernando Tatis Jr..
The young major of baseball star is another very successful player these days. The 22-year-old Dominican has amassed 43 safe hits so far this season, including 17 long balls. Along with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto Blue Jays) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (Atlanta Braves), he shares the top tier of the major leagues when it comes to home runs.
Tatis Jr. and DeGrom have faced each other only once since the Padres’ representative moved into the big leagues. On July 25, 2019, in a 4-0 win for the Mets, Tatis was shut out on all three chances he had to face deGrom.
