Community in focus: Klang Goodwill Garden
(Klang, 23rd) The coronavirus epidemic is serious. At this stage of the complete lockdown period, the government only allows individuals to run, not to play ball!
Although our country is currently under a complete lockdown order, some citizens have repeatedly ignored the importance of epidemic prevention and went out to the community’s covered basketball court to play in groups in order to get bored. The police officers arrived at the scene and gave advice after catching them. The citizens converged slightly, but the police officers left and then came out to play basketball, staged a “cat and mouse” drama.
It is known that in Taman Muhibah, Klang Central Road Goodwill Garden (Taman Muhibah) recently appeared a group of reluctant teenagers and father-son stalls, who would gather to play basketball in the evening.
Local residents pointed out that because someone violated the standard operating procedures (SOP) for epidemic prevention, someone called the police for the record. After receiving the report, the Klang North District Police visited the venue on the 16th (Wednesday) of this month and found that the players were all young people under the age of 18. Therefore, they only persuaded and instructed them to strictly observe the epidemic prevention SOP.
“However, these teenagers didn’t pay attention at all, and they still went their own way. When they saw the police, they fled or hid one after another; when there were no police officers, they continued to play.”
The residents felt helpless and reported the problem to the New Town State Constituency Service Center in Klang. Some citizens took the initiative to block the basketball ring and warned young people to cooperate with the government to prevent epidemics and not to bring infection risks to the community due to temporary playfulness.
Gan Guotai: Playing basketball has formed a group
Gan Guotai, secretary of the New Town State Constituency Youth Council and Director of Legal Counseling, told the media that at this stage the government only allows people to go out to the park for personal sports, including running, fitness, and playing basketball. When gathering, the police have the right to issue fines to offenders.
In view of this, he urged that parents of teenagers involved in secretly playing basketball should pay close attention to this matter, especially if the coronavirus epidemic is not under control, they must step up to take care of their children and prevent them from going out frequently to help reduce community infections.
Temporarily block the basketball ring
He said that according to the photos provided by the residents, the teenagers did not wear masks when they played in groups, let alone keep their distance. These actions are “gap” in epidemic prevention and should not be ignored.
“The presence of police officers on the scene to exhort is an open approach. As parents, you must play a good role in taking care of your children. In this extraordinary period, the most important thing is to prevent the epidemic from challenging the police officers’ law enforcement authority. Once you get a ticket, come again. It’s too late to make all kinds of complaints. Now everyone’s financial burden is very heavy, and there is no need to bear huge fines.”
He said that because there is no residents’ association in the district, some residents took the initiative to prevent the epidemic and temporarily blocked the basketball ring to prevent young people from continuing to play.
