Hazard and De Bruyne are victims in Belgium vs Portugal

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Victory Belgium 1-0 over Portugal in the round of 16 Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) must be paid dearly by the injury of two Red Devils stars: Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne.

Two Belgian playmakers Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne were victims when Belgium won over Portugal in the last 16 at La Cartuja Stadium, Seville, Monday (28/6) early morning WIB.

De Bruyne came off two minutes into the second half with an ankle injury after being tackled by Portugal’s Palhinha in the first half. Kevin De Bruyne was finally replaced by Dries Mertens in the 48th minute.

Meanwhile, Belgium captain Hazard gestured to the Belgian bench holding his hamstring towards the end of the second half. Eden Hazard finally had to be pulled out in the 87th minute to be replaced by Yannick Carrasco.

Losing De Bruyne and Hazard will be a loss for Belgium, who will face Italy in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 at the Allianz Arena, Munich, on Saturday (3/7) early morning WIB.

However, Belgium coach Roberto Martinez said he would look at both players’ condition in 48 hours to determine whether they are ready to play against Italy.

“We will see 48 hours from now to assess the situation of both players. We are back in Belgium now and they will carry out an examination on the injury tomorrow,” Martinez said at his post-match news conference.

Meanwhile, Belgium’s winner, Thorgan Hazard, who is also Eden Hazard’s younger brother, hopes that his brother and Kevin Bruyne can recover soon so they can help the team in the quarter-finals.

“I hope it’s not a serious injury [untuk Eden] though it doesn’t look so good. However, our medical team is very good so we hope everything will be fine for the rest of the tournament. Also with Kevin because we need these two players to go forward,” said Thorgan Hazard.
