Harlem Globetrotters want to be in the NBA – application to Commissioner Adam Silver

The NBA boss fueled speculation last December about expanding the league to 31 teams. He said at the time: “It is the fate of the league that it will expand at some point.” Seattle is the preferred location for the new franchise. The Seattle SuperSonics were the last team to be stationed there before the company moved to Oklahoma City.

The Globetrotters have been closely associated with the NBA for decades. Numerous players were hired by the clubs. There were also historical moments: in 1950 Nathaniel Clifton was signed by the Globetrotters as the first dark-skinned player to join the NBA, he played for the New York Knickerbockers. In the same year, the globetrotter Chuck Cooper was drawn as the first dark-skinned actor in the draft, 14th by the Boston Celtics.
