Harburg judoka clear medals in Denmark

Harburg. “I’m still really euphoric, after the long Corona break, this tournament was a real highlight,” said Raimund Geerdts from KSC-Bushido to Suederelbe24.de. An outdoor tournament was held in Fredericia, Denmark, right on the coast. Three KSC judoka also took part there and were confronted with a total of 200 judoka from all over the world.

The organizer had brought three judo competition areas to the Österstrand in Fredericia. For the KSC judoka it was the first competition after February 2020. At that time Linda Jean went on the mat for the last time in Vejle at the Danish Open. For the 5 year old Jenna it should be the first judo tournament participation. She started as the youngest and with her 20kg fighting weight as the lightest fighter. Your tournament group was about collecting points for different techniques. This brought her the longed-for bronze medal. She always went brave and with a smile in the encounters, even if the opponents, some with 9 years, were almost twice as old. All the children were happy to do judo in the open air and in the sunshine.

After sister Jenna was through with her first judo competition, her older sister Linda Jean made a comeback, who was also very happy to finally be back on the mat in a competition. Linda went visibly nervous but highly motivated in her first encounter against the local hero Laerke Helmer, here it came to a quick victory for a hip throw technique. The second encounter was against Olivia Dons-Lassen, who is also internationally experienced, but here too Linda did everything right, winning the fight prematurely with throwing technique. The final fight was against the reigning Danish champion from the capital Copenhagen, Alice Sloth Hansen. The two faced each other in the final of the Copenhagen Open in 2018, when the KSC Judo Amazon went off the mat as the winner. It was then also the exciting, hard and fast-paced fight between the two great judoka, but in which Linda won the fight with a spectacular throwing technique through overview and control. This gold medal is a very special one, according to the 13 year old from Harburg, after this long time of Lockdonw and then such a unique event in the sunshine on the beach.

Coach Bianca Geerdts was happy and satisfied with Linda’s strong performance, but still had to keep the tension up, because at 1 p.m., in the midday sun, David Ray Geerdts was still on the judo tatami. For David it was the first judo competition since November 2019. Obviously impressed by the high belt colors of his opponents, he kept a cool head and showed all his skills in the first encounter against his opponent from Kolding David Comvalius. David immediately gave full throttle, threw his opponent and ended the fight with
a handle. The second encounter he had against the Dane Daniel Wils, here too he won prematurely with throwing technique and a subsequent grab handle. In the final fight against Simon Germansen from Aarhus, he unfortunately had to admit defeat. David was the more active fighter and used more techniques than his opponent, then made a great O-Uchi-gari (large inner sickle), but was then countered by the Dane. This counter technique is forbidden in Germany in the age group and so David was surprised, but at the end of the day the joy of the great silver medal outweighs it.
