Germany Struggles to 16 Big Euro 2020, Mueller Not Worried

London

Thomas Mueller is not worried about Germany stumbling in the group stage ahead of facing England in the last 16. He considered that the process of Die Maanschaft performed better.

England vs Germany will be presented at Wembley in the round of 16 of the 2020 European Cup, Tuesday (29/6/2021) early morning WIB. This match can be watched on Mola via detikcom here.

The Three Lions team advanced to the last 16 as winners of Group D. Meanwhile, Germany had to struggle to get to the knockout phase after being runners-up in Group F.

Germany lost 0-1 to France, won 4-2 to Portugal and drew 2-2 to Hungary in the Group phase. In the last group match against Hungary, Germany even threatened to be eliminated after trailing 1-2 until the last 7 minutes of the match.

Leon Goretzka then became Germany’s savior thanks to his goal in the 84th minute. Joachim Loew’s men collected four points. They have the same points as Portugal in third place and one point adrift of France at the top of Group F.

Thomas Mueller is not too worried about Germany’s unconvincing performance throughout the group stage ahead of the match against England. He considered Nationalelf to continue to develop to be better.

Mueller assessed that to be a champion in this event a team did not have to perform well in all matches. He gave the example of Portugal, which won the 2016 European Cup even though they did not win a single group stage victory.

“You always expect that a team that will win the tournament will impress and dominate every game. However, that is not possible at this time,” Mueller was quoted as saying by the DFB website.

“You can see it in the other groups, and even in the previous tournament Portugal won their first game in the knockout stages.”

“The game against Hungary didn’t go as expected. Conceding two goals against highly defensive Hungary was not part of our plans. We managed to bounce back, even after we conceded after the equaliser. We kept pushing and got what we wanted.”

“We want to use that to take steps in the next game. This is part of the process. The goal is for us to keep moving forward,” he explained.
