French Open: Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal easily in the second round

Viktorija Golubic missed a good chance to reach the second round of the French Open for the first time in five years. Stefanie Vögele also loses in the first round.

Golubic lost after match ball against Estonian Anett Kontaveit 7: 6 (7: 4), 6: 7 (5: 7), 0: 6. With a score of 6: 5 in the second set, the 29-year-old from Zurich had the opportunity to secure victory. But the Kontaveit set as number 30, which showed some weaknesses, fended off the match point with a net attack that was successfully completed in the second attempt. After that, Golubic no longer came up to the level previously shown.

For a long time, the form-strong Golubic had defended very skillfully against the offensively and risky Kontaveit. She was the better player until match point. In the third set, however, the favorite was back on track and too strong.

Stefanie Vögele (WTA 131), who had played her way into the main field through qualification, lost to Italian Jasmin Paolini, who was 40 places better in the world rankings, with 5: 7, 1: 6. The 30-year-old from Aargau played at 5: 4 to win the first set, but then had to give up the remaining three games. (sda)
