Sergio Perez (Red Bull) won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of Sebastian Vettel in an Aston Martin, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) came third. For a long time it had looked like a one-two for Red Bull, but on lap 47 the leader Max Verstappen got off the track with a puncture and crashed into the gang at high speed on the start-finish straight. The Red Bull driver was apparently uninjured, but lost the chance of his first victory in Baku due to the accident. Shortly before the end, the race management stopped the Grand Prix and ordered the drivers into the pit lane. Lewis Hamilton braked himself during the restart and dropped from second to 16th place.
