Euskadi expands capacity for shows and sporting events

Iñigo Urkullu announced this Friday the flexibility of the measures to fight the spread of Covid-19 in the Basque Country. In his speech, he has broken down the 9 measures that allow the improvement of the epidemiological situation, among which the expansion of capacity in large venues for events stands out.

The modification of the decree includes the opening of large venues, with capacity for more than 5,000 people, at 30% of their total capacity. This, for example, would allow the public to return to the Reale Arena so that 11,850 people could enjoy the matches of the Real society. This would happen if with the return of the competition, on August 14-15, the current conditions were maintained. The San Sebastian stadium is the largest venue in Gipuzkoa and can once again host large concerts.

Before this, this flexibility will be noticed in the cultural field since the Basque Country allows, from this Saturday, that the venues with a capacity less than 1,600 people can accommodate 600 spectators indoors and 800 outdoors. Enclosures that have a capacity between 1,600 and 5,000 people (such as the large Kursaal cube or the Velodrome), they will be able to accommodate 800 indoors and 1,200 outdoors.

The impact will be almost immediate – of not returning to a worse epidemiological situation – in the Jazz Festival donostiarra. This year it is celebrated between July 21 and 25 and although the tickets are already on sale, they may be able to be extended.
