Domper Orange: crowbar Luuk de Jong no longer in action this European Championship due to knee injury

Luuk de Jong will no longer be in action for the Dutch national team this European championship. The striker suffered a knee injury in training on Tuesday in a collision with Cody Gakpo and the damage to the joint turned out to be greater than initially expected.

De Jong came in as a substitute in two of the three European Championship matches of Orange.

The Seville striker (30) does not have a happy season in any case. At his Spanish employer, he was mainly used as a crowbar and scored only four league goals. In the Netherlands he was passed in the ranking by Wout Weghorst.

On target in qualifying

Despite this, the strong De Jong was of great value to the Orange squad. Even this spring, by scoring in all three World Cup qualifiers. Precisely in the knockout phase, he seemed to be an important asset to be able to force something offensively if the course of the match would require it.

Due to the disappearance of De Jong, the selection of national coach Frank de Boer only consists of 24 players. Earlier, midfielder Donny van de Beek dropped out.
