Danish national team doctor: Eriksen has cardiac arrest

Copenhagen

Danish national team doctor Morten Boesen confirmed Christian Eriksen had cardiac arrest during his collapse during the Euro 2020 match against Finland. However, the cause is unknown.

Eriksen suddenly fell unconscious in the final minutes of the Denmark vs Finland match at Parken Stadium, Saturday (12/6/2021). Inter Milan’s midfielder was then immediately treated by the medical team on the field.

Eriksen received CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) before being taken off the field. He is currently undergoing treatment at Rigshospitalet, one of the top hospitals in Denmark, which is not far from the stadium.

“He was ‘gone’ and we did cardiac resuscitation. It was cardiac arrest,” said Morten Boesen as reported by ESPN.

“How close were we (to losing Eriksen)? I don’t know. We got him back after one defibrillation, so it was pretty quick.”

“I’m not a cardiologist, so I’ll leave the details to the experts at the hospital.”

Morten Boesen said the results of Christian Eriksen’s examination so far were good. However, Boesen has not been able to explain the cause of the 29-year-old midfielder experiencing cardiac arrest.

“We don’t have an explanation as to why it happened. I can’t answer that question,” said Boesen.

“I didn’t see it in person, I saw it on the screen when it happened, just like you. No explanation so far,” he said.

Christian Eriksen is now in a stable condition in hospital. He has communicated with his colleagues via video calls.

Denmark itself in the end lost 0-1 to Finland. Kasper Schmeichel et al will next face Belgium in the second match of Group B of the 2020 European Cup on Thursday (17/6/2021) night WIB.
