Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper announced Monday that he “may miss a few more Giants shows than usual” after a diagnosis that will force the broadcast veteran to begin chemotherapy treatments.

Kuiper, who turns 71 this month, has not announced a specific medical diagnosis, but in a statement released through the club, he explained that future absences on Giants shows will be linked to his condition. health.

“I’m still planning to broadcast this season, although I can take a few more games if I’m not feeling well,” Kuiper wrote.

“I feel very fortunate to have an incredibly talented team of doctors and healthcare specialists who will assist me throughout my treatment plan. Kuiper began broadcasting Giants games immediately after his playing career ended in 1986 and worked in the San Francisco organization until 1992. Kuiper’s chemistry with Giants color commentator Mike Krukow is a hallmark of team shows, as the duo have worked together for more than three decades.
