The delegation of 21 athletes was sworn in.

With 30 days to go until the inauguration ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, yesterday took place in the Palacio de los Deportes the swearing-in of the 21 athletes who to date have secured a place in the jousts.

The authorities of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG), accompanied by the Japanese ambassador to Guatemala, Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, and the honorary member of the International Olympic Committee, Willi Kaltschmitt, in addition to representatives of other sports entities.

“Tokyo 2020 will be a different Olympic and Paralympic Games, which no one has experienced, and Guatemalan athletes will receive the support of the municipalities where their delegations will be with the desire that they achieve the greatest amount of success,” said Yamamoto.

The members of the contingent that attended the swearing-in are the athletes: Mirna Ortiz, José Ortiz, Uriel Barrondo (athletics); Kevin Cordón (badminton), Manuel Rodas (cycling), Charles Fernández (pentathlon), Jennieffer Zúñiga, Yulissa López (rowing); Adriana Ruano, Juan Ramón Schaeffer (shooting with hunting weapons); Isabella Maegli (sailing) and José Ramos (judo).

Due to preparation commitments, Érick Barrondo, José Barrondo, Mayra Herrera, Luis Ángel Sánchez, José Calel, Luis Grijalva (athletics) were sworn in virtually; Luis Carlos Martínez (swimming); Waleska Soto (home gun shooting) and Juan Ignacio Maegli (sailing).

Flag bearers

The COG, as is customary, reserves for this day the surprise of who will be designated to carry the national flag at the inauguration ceremony.

Thus, for the 32nd edition of the Olympic Games, the one who will have the honor of carrying the flag will be Mirna Ortiz, seconded by Juan Ignacio Maegli and her bodyguards are Isabela Maegli and Luis Carlos Martínez. Kaltschmitt was in charge of taking the oath to the delegation that included the athletes, technicians and delegates.

The athletes wear a uniform of the national brand Sharkar, which includes a jacket with elements of the ancient Mayan culture, developed with regenerated raw materials, beige pants, shirt and white tennis shoes.
