New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton injured a finger on his right hand on Friday as part of a day of activities hosted by the team.

This was reported by the WEEI radio station.

The 32-year-old pivot hurt when his hand hit the helmet of one of his teammates. He did not throw the ball after the incident.

In 2021, Newton must play his second campaign in the uniform of the “Pats”. He hadn’t had much success, having amassed 2,657 yards and eight touchdowns from the air in 15 games. The 2015 NFL MVP holder also had 592 yards and 12 rushing majors. The Patriots maintained a 7-9 record in 2020 and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2008 campaign.

Next season, Newton will battle Mac Jones for the starting quarterback position. The 22-year-old was the first-round pick (15th overall) in the last auction on the Goodell Circuit.
