Basketball – BBL: Giessen 46ers do not offer Captain Thomas a new contract

Gießen (SID) – Bundesliga basketball team JobStairs Giessen 46ers has not offered captain Brandon Thomas a new contract for the coming season. The club announced on Friday. Thomas played for Hessen for three years and will be used in another role at the club after his career. The American ran 87 times in all competitions for the 46ers.

“It was an emotionally difficult decision for us not to make Brandon a contract offer for the coming season, which we of course had to consider and evaluate in a very rational way,” said Sebastian Schmidt, sports director of Giessen.

The club was relegated from the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), but received a wild card for the coming season, as the Bayer Giants Leverkusen had not applied for a license in the second division despite their athletic qualifications. The “re-entry” is associated with a payment of 700,000 euros to BBL GmbH for Giessen.
