Loaned this season by Le Mans, the leader of the Champagne Basket Matthieu gauzin was in the running for the LNB Trophy for best young rider. The 20-year-old competed with leaders Hugo Benitez (20, Bourg-en-Bresse), Matthew Strazel (18, Lyon-Villeurbanne) and winger Victor Wembanyama (17, Nanterre). It was the 2.18 m Nantes nugget that finally won this distinction. In 18 matches this season, including 10 as a starter, Wembanyama averaged 16.9 minutes, scored 6.8 points, took 4.7 rebounds and finished top blocker in the championship (1.9 per game).
