The number of accidents had doubled in the hour following our national team’s matches, according to a statistical analysis carried out by Vias. In addition, in the hour before games, 16% of crashes involved a driver under the influence of alcohol, compared to just 5% on non-match days, while in the hour after them, 19% of drivers were under the influence of alcohol versus 11% on non-game days. Overall, the number of accidents with driving a driver under the influence of alcohol has fallen by more than 20% compared to 10 years ago, and the percentage of drivers who test positive in an accident increased from 11% to 9%. Since 2016, the number of accidents involving a driver under the influence of alcohol, a man in more than 80% of cases, has been stable and has hovered around 4,200 accidents per year, i.e. almost one accident every two hours.
