39th Anniversary of Chen Guoren’s Killing Boston Chinese Tribute | Asians | Asian Rights

[Epoch Times June 25, 2021](The Epoch Times reporter Huang Jianyu reported in Boston) June 19 this year marks the 39th anniversary of the murder of Vincent Chin. On June 23, supporters of CACA and Asian rights in Boston gathered at the archway of Chinatown to commemorate Chen Guoren and call on people to oppose hatred against Asians.

In June 1982, Detroit resident Ronald Ebens and his adopted son Michael Nitz clashed with Chen Guoren after drinking in a local nightclub. Abens and Niz used baseball bats to severely wound Chen Guoren, killing him. Later, Ebbens and his son admitted to manslaughter, and the judge sentenced them to three years of probation and a fine of thousands of dollars.

Chen Guoren’s relatives, friends and Asian activists believe that the performance of the judge and the prosecution shows a contempt for Asian lives. The death of Chen Guoren triggered a widespread Asian rights movement across the United States.

On the 39th anniversary of Chen Guoren’s murder, dozens of supporters of Asian rights in Boston came to Chinatown to mourn. Participants included Li Weixin and his wife, founder of the Boston Homologous Association, Yu Wenbo, the president of Yu Fengcai Tang, Ruan Hongcan, chairman of the Nguyen House, Situ Wenxin of the Boston Chinese Veterans Association, and Linda Champion, a Korean lawyer in Boston. ◇
