What if the French football championship had become exciting again? Since Losc’s last victory in 2001, the title has gone to Paris Saint-Germain seven times, by far the richest club in France since it became part of the Qatar sovereign wealth fund.
Despite two second places behind Montpellier in 2011-2012 and Monaco in 2016-2017, the Parisians crushed Ligue 1 with sometimes impressive points gaps with their runners-up. With Lille in front and Monaco behind, the three clubs are held in a pocket square. The suspense of this end of the championship could reconcile the public with a competition which had gradually lost its interest.
