The Spanish national team in the European Cup without a Madrid player, said Enrique

Jakarta

Luis Enrique did not include any Real Madrid players in the squad for the Spanish national team to the 2020 European Cup. Enrique explained.

Enrique announced the Spanish national team squad for the 2020 European Cup on Monday (24/5/2021) yesterday. One of the decisions that shocked the public was the removal of Sergio Ramos from the national team.

Enrique argued that Ramos was not in a fit condition to compete in the 2020 European Cup. The 35-year-old defender was indeed plagued by injuries throughout the 2020/2021 season and only appeared 21 times in all competitions with Real Madrid.

With Ramos eliminated, there will be no Madrid players in the squad for the Spanish national team this time. This will be the first time in history that there has been no Real Madrid player in the Spain squad for the European Cup.

There are at least seven Spanish national team players who play for Real Madrid. Apart from Sergio Ramos, they are Nacho Fernandez, Alvaro Odriozola, Dani Carvajal, Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez, and Isco.

Regarding the absence of Madrid players in the Spanish national team this time, Enrique mentioned fitness as the main reason. Dani Carvajal, for example, only played 15 times for The Blancos in the 2020/2021 season due to more frequent injuries.

“Maybe if Carvajal and Ramos played more often, they might be in the squad list,” Enrique said as reported by Enrique. AS.

“I understand that every club wants its players to be called up, but sometimes they ask their players not to leave because it disturbs their calendar. They don’t join when they are injured,” said the former Barcelona coach.

At the 2020 European Cup, Spain is in Group E along with Sweden, Poland and Slovakia. The Red Fury will play the group phase match in La Cartuja, Sevilla.
