MEXICO CITY (apro) .- The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) conditionally lifted Mexico’s suspension, so the country is now eligible to participate in all competitions endorsed by the highest world body in this sport.
Due to the myriad of administrative irregularities presented by the Asociación Deportiva Mexicana de Baloncesto (Ademeba), FIBA suspended Mexico in February 2020, as long as it did not put its finances and statutes in order.
According to a statement from FIBA, the lifting of the suspension comes after the coordinated efforts of Ademeba together with the Mexican Olympic Committee, the Secretariat of Sports of Mexico (Conade) and the professional league (National Professional Basketball League), to achieve compliance with the FIBA regulatory framework.
In addition to Ademeba’s commitments for the implementation of the general statutes and internal regulations of FIBA, the lifting of the suspension is conditional on two steps: 1) Ademeba will abide by the supervision and decisions of the working group created by FIBA. same as continuing to monitor the progress of the Mexican association and its compliance with the FIBA regulatory framework and 2) implement the objectives of FIBA in its territory including the development of women in basketball and the continued growth of 3×3 basketball.
