ROME – After days of waiting and uncertainty, the supporters of the Cuban national baseball team they can breathe a sigh of relief. The Caribbean team has in fact received the necessary visas to be able to travel to the United States, more precisely in nearby Florida, where the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games expected in Tokyo between July and August.
To make it known was the Cuban Baseball Federation, who expressed his thanks to the international federation that governs the sport played on the diamond, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (Wsbc), the Olympic Committee and the baseball federation of the usa.
The Cuban team had to deal with the bureaucratic delays to obtain the entry visa to the United States that many compatriots have faced since three years ago the administration of former President Donald Trump had suspended the consular services of the embassy in Cuba as part of a policy of tightening diplomatic relations with the island. The official cause of the decision and the consequent reduction in staff by about 60 per cent were the alleged “acoustic attacks” of which officials of the diplomatic office would have been victims. Now the Cuban team, seventh in the world in the ranking, will be able to compete for its chance to participate in the Olympics, during which it has already obtained three gold and two silver medals in the past. The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, expressed his good wishes to the national team and thanked “all the institutions and individuals of good will” who contributed to resolving the situation.
