Teenager Shuttler Palak Kohli qualifies for Tokyo Paralympic Games

Young para-badminton player Palak Kohli has qualified for the Tokyo Paralympic Games which begin on August 24. “We received the official communication on Saturday. Glad to hear the news. Over the past few months we’ve been training hard to reach our goal of winning a ticket to Japan, ”said the 18-year-old. Palak will team up with veteran Parul Parmar in the SL3-SU5 women’s doubles category at the Paralympic Games. The Indian team was in the process of qualifying, but the official announcement was made only after the conclusion of the Spanish para-badminton tournament, which was one of the qualifying events for the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

“The Indian contingent could not participate [in Spain] due to the pandemic, ”Palak added.

Currently ranked No. 6 in the world, Palak and Parul are confident of a good show in Japan.

“Our main goal now is to get on the podium at the Tokyo Paralympic Games,” added Palak.

After reaching the SL3-SU5 women’s doubles event, Palak hopes to qualify for the SU5 singles category as she is ranked 11th in the world.
