Roland Garros> Chardy: “Last year, after my defeat at Roland-Garros, I thought about stopping my career”

In our magazine that just came out this week, we have a clip called Guest Star. For this number 77, it’s Jérémy Chardy our guest. This interview was carried out during the Estoril tournament. It is available in full in the mag. We decided on you by selecting a passage.

What is your worst memory at Roland-Garros?
Obviously the one experienced last October. I was playing in the rain, it was cold, there was not a person in the stadium. A thousand times, I should have won this game. In the end, I find myself in the locker room, refrigerated, I am eliminated and I do not even have the impression that it is Roland-Garros. I am bound to be sad. I did not take a gram of pleasure. I’m really thinking about quitting. I realize at this precise moment that I am not on the circuit every day to experience moments like this, that I know that my real motivation is the pleasure of the game.

We mentioned your worst memory, but there must be a good one at Roland Garros …
Obviously, and he is above everything. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was in 2008. I am invited, classified beyond the 180e instead, no one knows me. I land in Paris, and I manage to reach the knockout stages by taking out Tursunov, but especially David Nalbandian. I discover the media, the circuit. At the end of the tournament, I am Top 100. It’s like a daydream, a culmination, it’s magic. I get chills every time I mention it.
