National Football League leaders plan to address allegations of discriminatory comments made by a team leader about Eugene Chung when he took part in an interview for an instructor position .

Chung told the Boston Globe that a person conducting an interview told him that he “was not in the right minority”. Chung, a Korean-American, did not identify the team.

In an official statement, Brian McCarthy, spokesperson for the NFL, announced that the league will review the case.

McCarthy added that this comment is completely inappropriate and contrary to the values and policies of the league in the workplace.

According to McCarthy, the NFL and its teams are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all staff in a way that aligns with the league’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Chung, a 1992 New England Patriots first-round pick, played in the league for five seasons and was an assistant coach for ten years.

Chung was notably on the coaching staff for the Philadelphia Eagles between 2016 and 2019. He began his coaching career with the Eagles, on the staff led by Andy Reid in 2010. He followed Reid to Kansas City in 2013 and went to Philadelphia in 2016 with Doug Pederson.

On the field, Chung started 30 games at two guard positions for the Patriots in his first two seasons in the league, in 1992 and 1993. He played one season with Jacksonville and one with Indianapolis.
