This last match was certainly not needed to define how “sensational ”the season played by Steph Curry, and participation in the playoffs would have been the right recognition for all the effort to get here. To Curry and the Golden State Warriors the last step was missing, managing to put a complicated game back on its feet with a comeback from -9 to 3 minutes from the end of regulation, but yielding in extra time in front of Ja Morant’s Memphis Grizzlies. Curry fought all game facing constant doubling just passed the half court, but still managed to close with 39 points and with 13/28 shooting, 6/15 from long distance and 7/7 for free, to which he also added 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals (but also 7 turnovers and 5 fouls that limited him in the final match). In a match that Golden State lost by 5 lengths, in the 47 minutes and 23 seconds in which he remained on the field, the Warriors closed at +4, testifying to the effort put in by the two-time MVP to prevent his season from ending today. It wasn’t enough, and now that his season is over his teammate and friend Kent Bazemore revealed what he had to face: “He doesn’t want anyone to know, but he’s been playing on a coccyx microfracture for two months” he said after the race. An injury (which the Warriors had defined only as a “bruise”) suffered last March in Houston that forced Curry to skip five games in a row, then returning to the field in April for a legendary month at 37.3 points on average 96 triples to sign, a record never made in NBA history.

At the end of the game Steph Curry was framed by the cameras with a towel over his head and an indecipherable expression on his face, then approaching Ja Morant to congratulate the 21-year-old young man after a great duel. Their photo together was also picked up by the NBA’s Twitter account and the Grizzlies’ point guard himself, who wrote: “By far my favorite pairing. Now give him that MVP trophy”.
