NEW YORK – Julius Randle of the New York Knicks has been named the most improved player in the NBA this season.

A star player in his seventh season on the Tour, Randle received 98 first-place votes in a poll of 100 journalists and commentators.

The 26-year-old Texan averaged 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and six assists, placing in the league’s top 20 in each category.

Randle led the NBA with 37.6 minutes of play per game.

He has clearly shown himself as the point guard for the Knicks, who are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

The club finished fourth in the East, with a 41-31 record.

The Knicks were surprised, however, in raising the curtain of the series against Atlanta; the Hawks won 107-105 in a 15,000-seat Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Randle was then limited to 15 points, one more than Canada’s RJ Barrett.

In the ballot for the player who improved the most, he was mostly ahead of Jerami Grant of the Pistons and Michael Porter Jr. of the Nuggets. They scored 140 and 138 points, respectively.

Randle has made giant strides in the three-point range, with a success rate of 41.1 percent.

He had never done better than 34.4 percent in this regard.

Montrealer Chris Boucher of the Toronto Raptors had 10 points and was seventh in the poll.
