NEW YORK – Noah Syndergaard left with pain in his right elbow while undergoing minor league rehab on Tuesday.

This is another tile on the head of the New York Mets, who are already ravaged by injury.

The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery on March 26, 2020.

Last Wednesday, he didn’t give a run in four innings with St. Lucie (A), striking out five batters.

On his second start with the team, it only lasted one heat on Tuesday.

The Mets have indicated that Syndergaard was taken out of the game as a preventive measure. He was heading for a full return to play in mid-June, but that scenario looks uncertain at best.

The 28-year-old Syndergaard is 47-30 and an average of 3.31 in five seasons with the Mets.

He will be able to become a free agent in the fall.

The Mets have 16 players on their injured list, the highest in major league baseball today.

Three of their top five starters – Syndergaard, Carlos Carrasco and Taijuan Walker – are missing.

Carrasco, sidelined with a strained right hamstring, is not expected to be back until July.

Walker has not played since May 18 due to stiffness in the right side.

He was out of the way due to stiffness in the right side.
