Marie Benoit fails in the second round of qualification

The number 232 in the world rankings was defeated by the Austrian Julia Grabher (WTA 194) after a hard-fought game in three sets with 3: 6, 6: 4 and 2: 6.

Grabher set the tone in the first round and took the serve from Eupen in the third and ninth games. Left-hander Benoit was not impressed and led 2-1 when the match had to be interrupted due to rain. As a result, the game was completely open before Benoit made the decisive break to 5: 4 and she equalized the set with the first set ball.

It also looked good at the beginning of the third phase of the game when the 26-year-old took the serve from her competitor, who was one year younger. In the final phase, however, Grabher had more to deal with, won three games in a row and immediately used her first match point. (jph)
