Judoka Julián Sancho shines with gold in Ecuador

(CRHoy.com) .- The brothers Julián and Ignacio Sancho had an outstanding participation in the Pan American Judo Open, which was held in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Julián shone by taking the gold medal in the -73 kilogram category. While his brother Ignacio obtained the second place in the -66 kg, hanging the silver medal.

To earn first place, Julián defeated the experienced Phillipe Metellus of Haiti in the final.

For his part, Ignacio lost by gold point to Juan Hernández from Colombia.

Both brothers are looking for a ticket to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Currently, Ignacio Sancho is in box 66 in the world with 780 accumulated points, while Julián is in position 75 with 642 points in the -73 kg category.

Their next competition will be at the World Judo Championships Seniors in Hungary.

Other results

In the same competition in Guayaquil were also the Ticos Sebastián Sancho, José Peralta and Paula López.

Sebastián took third place in -60 kg, Peralta ranked fifth in the same category and López competed in -52 kg and lost to Aracelly Barrionuevo of Ecuador in the bronze dispute.

This Sunday it will be David Guillén’s turn at -81 kg.
