Verena Meliss was eliminated in the first round of the $ 15,000 ITF tournament in Sibenik on Wednesday afternoon. In doubles, however, the Kaltererin is in the quarter-finals.

Meliss had no luck at the draw in Croatia. With Johana Markova, the Überetscherin immediately met the number 1 of the tournament. The 22-year-old Czech is number 390 in the world, Meliss is currently 502 in the WTA ranking. The 23-year-old from Kalter showed a very strong performance and won the first set 6-2. The second part of the game was also very even, which Markova got 6: 4. In the third, decisive set, the Czech secured the break to make it 5: 4 in the ninth game. Thus Meliss’s resistance was broken. After 2:29 hours of play, Markova prevailed 6: 4.
For Meliss, the tournament in Sibenik is not over yet. In the double competition, she is already in the quarter-finals. Meliss and her Slovenian partner Manca Pislak prevailed against the Croatians Kristyna Hrabalova / Barbora Miklova 6: 2, 6: 4 yesterday. Mariana Drazic (CRO) / Dea Herdzelas (BIH) are waiting in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
Mair and Trocker fail in qualification
Laura Mair and Moritz Trocker, however, were eliminated in the qualification of the $ 15,000 tournaments in Monastir and Sibenik. The 18-year-old Mair from Val Gardena knocked out the American Kendra Bunch 6: 3, 7: 6 (2), in round 2 she also got the upper hand against Nour Gueblaoui from Tunisia with 6: 1, 6: 0. In the third, decisive round, Mair had to admit defeat to number 1 seeded Italian Anita Bertoloni 4: 6, 1: 6.
For Moritz Trocker, Sibenik was the end of the line in the second lap. After the 21-year-old Völser benefited from the abandonment of Mile Matic (Trocker was already leading 6: 2) at the start, he met Evgenii Tiurnev in round 2. The 24-year-old Russian is an absolute top player and is in 297th place in the ATP ranking. Trocker kept up well, but in the end had to bend 2: 6, 4: 6.
