Gerrit Cole dominates over and over again

The New York Yankees have a true number one pitcher, a starter who, every chance he finds himself at the mound, gives his team a great chance to win: Gerrit Cole.

Once again on Saturday, Cole dominated the Chicago White Sox, allowing his team to win by a score of 7-0 in front of 14,665 full spectators at Yankee Stadium.

In seven innings of work, the gunner gave up just four hits and had seven strikeouts. Granted, Cole also allowed three walks, but without taking any damage.

On defense, the Yankees turned a double play four times. On offense, Gleyber Torres made a name for himself hitting three hits and producing four runs for the Yankees.

Already the day before, Torres had pulled off the winning streak to end the game at the end of the ninth inning, while the Yankees had pushed the audacity to complete a triple play in the previous batting round of the White Sox.

Towards the Cy Young trophy?

Still on the hunt for a career first Cy Young trophy, Cole has offered some exceptional stats since the start of the season.

In 10 starts, he shows a 6-2 record, but above all an earned runs average of 1.81. In 64 and two-thirds innings, the Californian has 92 strikeouts and just eight walks.

His performance on Saturday greatly helped the Yankees to their fifth straight win. Earlier this week, teammate Corey Kluber had a scoring and hitting scoreless game while starters Domingo German and Jordan Montgomery each called with at least seven innings without giving up a single run. This is only the second time in Yankee history that pitchers have been so dominant in four consecutive starts. The only other such streak dates back to 1932, according to the Major League Baseball website.

The current three-game series between the Yankees and the White Sox concludes Sunday afternoon. Jameson Taillon should then be the starter for the Bronx Bombers. After a day off Monday, the New York team must also receive a visit from the Toronto Blue Jays, from Tuesday to Thursday.
