One 14:00 clock the two seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev meets Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan. Medvedev, anything but a clay court specialist, wants to win a match at the French Open for the first time.

Medvedev was able to do the service for the Kazakhs again and is now serving at the score of 3: 2. And he does that very safely. After a backhand mistake by Bublik from the baseline, the score is 2: 4 from the outsider’s point of view.

Break and rebreak on the Philippe Chatrier. Medvedev had to give up his service, but immediately took back the service game from Bublik.

Sinner is likely to have wished for the start of the fifth sentence to be similar. The Italian takes the service from his opponent. Herbert then takes a very big risk to get the rebreak, but makes the mistakes.

Juvan also fends off the third match point, this time with a great winner against the direction of her opponent. With the backhand crossball, Swiatek gets possibility number four. And that’s it! The defending champion closes the bag on the net and reaches round two.

With a winner on the net after a hard-fought rally, Swiatek gets her first match point. Juvan countered that with a strong serve. But then the Slovenian tries to stop, it goes wrong, and Swiatek has chance number two. She forgives them with a forehand error.

Very strong return from Herbert on a cautious second serve by Sinner. Again the Frenchman has a break chance. And he transforms it along the line with a very nice backhand. 5: 2 for Herbert in the third set. A little surprise is looming here.

It is slowly becoming critical for Sinner. The South Tyrolean also had to give up his service in the third sentence. He tries to set the pace in the match, but Herbert holds against it well and with a nice length in his strokes. And too many rallies currently end with mistakes by Sinner.

Sinner had the physiotherapist come to the square. The Italian seems uncomfortable. There is also a doctor who takes the youngster’s pulse. But apparently everything is fine so far. The doctor gives Sinner the okay so that the match can continue.
