The baseball season has started, and after changes in regulations and league, and postponements due to the pandemic, the play ball has finally arrived. A start without an audience, which, however, should already be able to return to the stands from the next home match of Effe.
Fortitudo baseball, included in Group D together with Bolzano, Castellana and Verona hosted the Scala family at Falchi for the first double match of the season (15-3 and 9-1), which led to a double for the men of the Manager Lele Frignani. Two initially balanced matches which were then unbalanced by the quality fielded by the men from the Bolognese team. Honor of arms in Verona, which in any case played two good races, putting the hosts in difficulty in some moments.
Race 1 – Fortitudo-Verona 15-3
Race 1 initially showed how necessary it is to play a pre-season to get to the championship that is already quite well-established. The first innings in fact served to remove the rust from the gears to both teams, with errors from all over the field mainly due to the lack of play. And so Verona immediately took the lead, with Scotti taking a while to warm up and with him Loardi-Dobboletta clash which then forces the captain to leave the field as a precaution.
But then Verona also falls into error, and Fortitudo takes the lead again, only to be caught up again and back up again by a few points.
We arrive at the 4th inning, the turning point of the game takes place: the advantage already in the pipeline, comes an inning of 5 points of which 3 arrive thanks to a homerun by Alessandro Grimaudo (2 out of 3, a double and a home run, 5 RBI). Verona tries to stay focused, but the game is now addressed, L’Aquila takes confidence and is dragged by Grimaudo and Niccolò Loardi which puts on the plate a 2 on 2 in bat and 2 RBI, the game ends with a manifest in the 7th inning with a score of 15-3. On the launch mount, fair evidence of Scotti e Zotti, and good proof of Crepaldi.
Race 2 – Fortitudo-Verona 9-1
In the evening things change a bit, because they go up on the mound Gouvea and Perdomo that leave very little room for the opposing batittori. Also in this case, however, Fortitudo puts its head forward thanks to a higher quality in the batting box, but Verona responds and remains compact until Perdomo begins to drop and the decisive moment of the match is reached.
We are in the 5th inning when Leonora sends the ball over the fences with a 3-point homerun who fix the result at 5-1 and concretize the escape of Fortitudo. Verona does not have the strength to react, also because on the Fortitudo mound everything works at its best: in the whole match only 6 hits and a base ball will be granted (which concretize the Veronese point) against 12 strike out.
And so it is the hosts who are still going to point. At the 7th two standing doubles Shrimp e Liberator move the score to 6-1 and to the 8th inning a Filippo Agretti’s 3-point home run closes the match at 9-1.
