Fire station: amicable agreement between Saint-Georges and the builder

Saint-Georges came to an amicable agreement with the promoter responsible for the construction of the new fire station. This was approved by the city council during the May 25 meeting.

The agreement provides that the City will remit $ 86,166 plus applicable taxes to the builder, who had to assume additional costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular the rental of equipment while the site was closed. The amount claimed was approximately $ 140,000 according to the general manager, Claude Poulin.

“We looked at what the government allowed by decree and what we usually did in the City. There were still costs that were justified for which there is some jurisprudence in the case of contracts given before COVID-19 for which the promoter had to absorb additional costs, ”explained Mr. Poulin during the city council. .

New regulation on drinking water

In addition, a new regulation on the management of drinking water was presented during the meeting in order to comply with the 2019-2025 Quebec Drinking Water Saving Strategy of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

For citizens, the main change if the by-law is adopted as it is, affects the washing of external infrastructure. This includes parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, patios, and building walls. “The best example is asphalt. From now on, it will only be allowed to 1is April to May 15, except during construction work, ”said the general manager.

Watering the plants every two days remains in effect. Thus, people with an even civic address can water their lawns, gardens, flowers, trees and other landscaping between 8 p.m. and midnight on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

For citizens whose civic address is an odd number, watering must take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, always between 8 p.m. and midnight.

Violators face a fine of $ 50. This will be doubled in the event of a repeat offense.

Postal voting

In addition, the councilors adopted a resolution to authorize postal voting in the municipal elections of November 7.

The measure only concerns people aged 70 and over and non-domiciled owners, that is, people who own a building in Saint-Georges, but who do not live there.

However, these people will have to make a request to the president of the elections, the clerk of Saint-Georges, Isabelle Beaulieu. The date from which it will be possible to register will be announced later.

Elected officials granted a total of $ 74,451 to various sports organizations, including $ 21,785 to the Minor Tennis and Racquetball Association, $ 20,680 to the Saint-Georges Judo Club and $ 18,413 to the Artist Skating Club. , $ 8,637 to the Minor Hockey Association and $ 4,745 to the organization Scouts et guides Saint-Georges.
