FC Bayern loses Game 1 against Ludwigsburg

The MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg took the lead in the play-off semifinals against cup winners Bayern Munich. The main round winner prevailed in the first duel of the best-of-five series 101: 98 (55:47) against the EuroLeague quarter-finalists.

Ludwigsburg has home rights again in the second duel on Monday, before game three in Munich is on the agenda two days later. If after that and also through the fourth match on Friday in Munich no winner has been determined, the decision would be made in the fifth meeting on June 6th (Sunday) in Ludwigsburg.

The second finalist will be determined by Meister Alba Berlin and ratiopharm Ulm. In the first two duels on Sunday and Tuesday, the defending champion from the capital has home rights.

Munich gambled away a possible success in the first section and ran after the meanwhile 16 points deficit for the rest of the game in vain. In the ultimately unsuccessful race to catch up, Bayern’s wear and tear made itself felt as they played their 83rd game of the current season in Ludwigsburg, including their EuroLeague appearances. The hosts have so far only been challenged by a little more than half of them (43rd games).

The best thrower of the match was Ludwigsburg’s Bundesliga returnees James McLean with 27 points. Munich EuroLeague all-star Vladimir Lucic could not prevent the defeat of the guests with his 24 points alone.
