Atypical season in Segovian provincial basketball caused by the COVID-19 pandemic where many of the usual teams and clubs have decided not to participate in the competitions offered by the Basketball Federation to play something in this final stretch of the season, but in the meantime discard a new women’s basketball team has emerged, made up of players from different points and entities in the province of Segovia, who have come together to achieve some female competition in what is currently the highest representation of Segovian women’s basketball in the category junior and senior.
And it is that this team that has the collaboration of the Espirdo City Council, has as rivals in competition the junior and senior players of the CD Base, being the other participant in this competition, which, although it is true, remains low in participation, It is not in terms of level and enthusiasm of all the players who during the last two Sundays have met to enjoy basketball again after several months without federation activity.
Matchday 1 – 3 × 3 Competition
In the first of the days held on the outdoor track in Nueva Segovia, the two clubs presented two teams each to play the competition in 3 × 3 format, which represents a different, intense and fast game. All the matches stood out especially due to two data, the first being the scarce annotation, and that is that the scores were quite low, and secondly the maximum equality during the matches since practically all of them ended with one point of difference. After playing all the matches in the first round of the competition, the Espirdo – Freedom Serigrafia team was placed at the top of a classification that has everything to decide on the next day that will be played this Sunday again at the Nueva Segovia court.
Matchday 2. 5 × 5 Competition
In the second of the days, a match was played in the usual 5 × 5 basketball format on the municipal court of Tizneros, in which, after a few minutes with a lack of success in the face of the ring, it was the local team that opened the can and from there in the first quarter he got a good set, thanks especially to his good work on defense and on the rebound. In the second quarter the equality and the low score were maintained until the final moments where Espirdo’s player, Lily de Andrés scored two triples in a row and took the score to rest with a 37-12 very favorable for the locals.
The second half started as the first one ended, with two triples by Lily and another by Susana de Miguel that increased the income above 30 points, and despite the reaction of the CD Base players, they began to see its fruits in the pressure on the entire court, a time-out by Mauro Martín solved the problem again and they regained control of the game against a very failed Base CD facing the basket. In the end a 49-21 that makes things very complicated for the Segovians facing the second leg.
