Copa Libertadores: three consecutive years without the Colombian teams advancing from the group stage | Libertadores Cup

Colombian football is in decline and not only because of the lousy level of the local league. In international tournaments, the panorama is the same or worse than dark, and this 2021, unfortunately, was no exception.

With the elimination of Atlético Nacional, Junior de Barranquilla, Independiente Santa Fe and América de Cali in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores 2021, three years have been completed without a Colombian team playing the round of 16 of the most important international club competition in South America.

Precisely, the purslane team was the last to play this phase, when in 2018 they faced Atlético Tucumán in this instance, in a key that was in favor of the Argentines by 2-1.

The following year, in 2019, Atlético Nacional (phase 3), Independiente Medellín (phase 2) and Deportes Tolima and Atlético Junior (group phase) staged a year for oblivion in which they did not advance to the round of 16.

Then, in 2020, Junior, América de Cali, Tolima (stayed in phase 3) and Independiente Medellín, again disappointed and ended their participation in Libertadores in the group stage.

Thus, the international panorama does not leave Colombian football well standing, which clearly needs a reform from the administrative part to the smallest detail in sports matters. Total disappointment!
